The target audience for the BBC local radio stations are those over 50 who do not get served as well by the rest of the radio stations from the BBC.
It covers South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, This includes; Sheffield, Rotherham, Barnsley, Chesterfield etc.
We know it is a public service broadcaster because it has informative shows like; Steve Bailey who reviews newspapers and also reads the latest news. Rony Robinson hosts topical discussions and Howard Pressman gives the traffic, news and sport.
BBC Radio Sheffield conforms to the BBC brand as it has no advertisements, it plays host to a variety of shows that inform, educate and entertain. Their website has the same layout as all the other BBC websites and changes regularly when the BBC website does.

The BBC are a public funded service, who are a public service broadcast. They get their funding from TV licenses. They were set up by Lord Reith in 1922. He set it up to inform, educate and entertain. All the BBC radio has to do all the 3 things due to BBC original policy as we still pay the license fees.

Hallam FM is a radio station that play adult contemporary. They are a local South Yorkshire radio station from Sheffield. They are the number one commercial station for the whole of South Yorkshire. It was launched in October 1974 and broadcasts in Sheffield, Doncaster, Barnsley etc. It has won many awards including a gold award for Best Personality by Big John.
Hallam FM has many presenters including Big John, JK and Joel Ollie and Becky Hayes etc. It competes with Capital, Real Radio, Peak FM, BBC Sheffield and BBC Radio 1. Bauer Media uses RAJAR figures to collate its listenership for all it's stations. It is more important to get accurate local figures because it is tougher to sell advertising space on the radio. RAJAR stands for Radio Joint Audience Research and it is the official body in charge of measuring radio audiences in the UK. Joint owned by the BBC and radio centre. Hallam get nearly a third of all commercial market share in South Yorkshire. They sponsor Sheffield's next comedian and School of the Week etc. They also sponsor both Sheffield United and Wednesday. Hallam can be listened to by an App, Freeview, DAB, FM Radio and the internet.

The Bauer Media Group is a German Media company. It is the largest media company in the UK. It is one of the largest conglomerates in the world.
